Here's a chance to take advantage of some basic new technology so we can share thoughts and learn from each other.

What's it about? Well, as the At-Large-Director my role is to be a representative of all the people in our association. Not one region, not one point of view, but all points of view. So let me hear from you. Agree, or not. Believe, or not. See, or not. Don't hold back. I said I would be a "devil's advocate" (that's what got me elected) so let me advocate and see what we have to talk about.

Just a couple of ground rules... please read them, they're to the right.

Continue to use the DL to discuss operational issues and use this to talk about NACUFS, your association.

Alright, let's get started.

One interesting question, from a newer member was: "What are Robert's Rules of Order?"

You've probably noticed, if attending a NACUFS meeting that there is an order to which issues are brought before the group. The General Membership Meeting, or the Board Mtg. is a good example. This formal process, used throughout the world, is based on a parliamentary approach to a meeting and maintains a certain structure. Go to: http://www.robertsrules.com/ and you'll get a more detailed description. And for those of you who are interested in the governance of NACUFS and how to participate at one of these meetings it's a good way to begin and understand how to participate. Check it out!

Okay, what else?

Oh yeah! don't forget that Mark Kraner, our Pres. also has a blog. He's got some big initiatives on the horizon, check them out and let him know what you're thinking.

Let's get a bit more serious. NACUFS is a large and complex association made up of operators and liasons who represent a diverse group of dining operations. Regional differences, differences between public and private, and small to large operations abound. Some members are very satisified, others are not and question its value. But in all of this we can agree, that as a volunteer organization, its direction is determined by its members and the people who give their input. So take advantage of this blog and raise the issues that concern you. There is a lot of depth to this organization and having differing points of view and expressing them is what gives us its depth. Don't be shy, NACUFS has the capacity to handle it. After all we're food service operators and they don't get much tougher than us.

Ask the question.
